Karen joined the Pembina Institute in March 2006 as in-house counsel and BC Policy Director. Karen has extensive experience on upstream oil and gas issues in British Columbia, and has worked with directly affected communities and First Nations. In addition to oil and gas, Karen's expertise includes other issues, such as coalbed methane, coal fired power and climate change. Her legal expertise includes mining law, aboriginal law and environmental assessment. Prior to joining the Pembina Institute, Karen was a staff lawyer at West Coast Environmental Law for seven years, where, among other things, she produced a series of citizen and landowner guides on oil and gas issues in British Columbia. She has a BA (with Distinction) from the University of Western Ontario, an LLB from Dalhousie University and an LLM (with Merit) from the University of London (England).
